Ripple & Skimmer
Submitted by marshapetry on Wed, 12/23/2009 - 12:16pm.Mostly I'm just testing how to use my account but I thought I'd also introduce Ripple and Skimmer, Leos from the Von Stutensee kennel. Ripple is nearly 2 (born 1/30/2008) and Skimmer is a 6 months (born 6/7/2009). Ripple is wise, strong, and caring - she loves "her" kitties and took right over as Skimmer's big sister when he arrived. Skimmer is confident, goofy, and the most outgoing Leo we've ever had - he loves little girls and teenage girls the best of all.
We look forward to playing with all the mountain Leos! I'll post pics soon.

Leonbergers in need of adoption
Submitted by administrator on Wed, 11/18/2009 - 8:38pm.Hi everyone,
There are currently two leo males, aged 6 months at the Big Dogs/Huge Paws rescue in Colorado. Both of these boys need loving, caring homes. They are probably litter mates. Their names are Hobbs and Tuck.
If you have any interest please contact BD/HP at:
Big Dogs - Huge Paws Rescue | 303-322-4336 | Fax 303-474-5861 WeCare@bigdogshugepaws.com
This is a non-kill rescue, though they still need homes.

Kennel Vom Sanften Loewen has record litter... 18 pups!
Submitted by administrator on Wed, 11/11/2009 - 2:55pm.Wow,
The pairing of Ariel and Eddy, both LCA champions has given a litter of 18 puppies! A big congratulations to RIchie and Mary. This is a huge amount of work to rotate 18 pups every 2 hours for feeding, for weeks on end. No rest in site I can imagine for MA and the crew. It may be the biggest Leo litter in the states so far, and possibly abroad.
You can see pictures or contact Mary over on their site: http://leosforu.com/UpcomingLitters.html
The RMLC welcomes Rodeo to the pack!
Submitted by john on Mon, 05/25/2009 - 9:13am.If one Leo is good, two must be great? I just flew back from Michigan picking up my new pup. His name is Rodeo. He is a mild mannered guy, very different from my 2.5 yr old female who is fairly highly energy. He has great focus, retrieves (yes!), and doesn't take any $%*# from his older sister. He is the son of Bolelejonet's His Majesty (Maverick) owned by Stan and Lori Peznowski, and Home Sweet Home's Aja Marie owned by Amy Garabedian and Nick Brown of Good Life Leos. He looks more like his father, though still has some traits of his mother, and grandfathers Greven and Drambuie.
Special thanks go out to Amy and Nick of Good Life Leos for another amazing Leo and all the great hospitality!Special thanks also to Lori and Stan, for enduring my endless requests for photos and information.
Lastly, to Aja for having the patience, and to Maverick for figuring it out. ; )

Water Rescue Training and Certification
Submitted by john on Tue, 05/05/2009 - 1:52pm.Hi everyone,
We are underway with putting together a couple great ways for our members to get involved with their Leos in Water Rescue. We will be working with the High Country Newfoundland Club to put together an introductory "learn about it" event, as well as developing a working program going forward for those with interest. The HCNC has been the premier source for water rescue training and certification in the CO, UT, WY, and NM regions for some time and we are over the moon to have the opportunity to work with them to get our Leos out there on the water.
If you have interest in learning more about Water Rescue training and certification for your Leos, please send an email to: rockymountainleonbergerclub@gmail.com with the number of dogs, and any prior WR experience. It is important to get an initial number of interested people and dogs prior to scheduling.
We are also looking for a club coordinator to work with the HCNC for the WR program, if you have interest please contact us, we can always use a helping hand.

Submitted by administrator on Sat, 04/25/2009 - 8:57am.A huge round of applauds have to go to Kayleigh Knight for her performance at this year's 2009 LCA Nationals. Kayleigh comes from a long family history involving Leos, and has been junior handling now for about 3 years. This year, paired with Portia v. saftenLoewen's “Hannah”, she was unstoppable. All the hard work and dedication really paid off for her, and without further adieu here are her results:
Kayleigh's results:
Thursday: 3rd place - LCA Junior Showmanship: Kayleigh Knight Portia v. saftenLowen “Hannah”.
Friday: 1st place - AKC Junior Novice: Kayleigh Knight Portia v. saftenLoewen “Hannah”.

Amazing work Kayleigh! Kayleigh also has contributed an essay about Junior Handling to the RMLC, in it she gives insight into what it means to her to show. Read the article.
Congratulations Kayleigh!

The Life of a Junior Handler
Submitted by administrator on Thu, 04/23/2009 - 4:01pm.By Kayleigh Knight...
I have just returned from a National Specialty Dog Show. This means a dog show with only one breed. It is sponsored by the Leonberger Club of America “LCA”. So of course the breed was the Leonberger. Leonbergers are very big dogs. The males are around 150 lbs, and females are around 125-130 lbs. They’re used for companion dogs, watchdogs, and water rescue. These dogs can be at various shows. It’s very exciting to go to a dog show because there are so many dogs, and so many people. You get to do a lot of things at dog shows. For example...you get to watch the judge’s judge, watch people show their majestic, but firm dogs. You get to explore the world and meet new people. Like myself, I have been showing since 2006 and it is 2009 now so that’s about 3 and 1/2 yrs. I have met so many people, from so many countries. It’s very good experience for kids my age, which is 11, because you learn while you’re young. That’s how kids my age and over get scholarships for dog showing. And you have to make sure you follow through on what you start.
Every time there is a dog show my grandmother will take me to get more experience. She says the only way you'll learn is by practice, and watching professionals. That’s how I got where I am now is because i listen to my grandma, pay attention when needed, and I practice almost every day with my dogs.
It's a great experience for you and your dog...But there are some things you have to do, and not do. You don't want to relax your dog any time in the ring even if the judge tells you to in Junior Handling, of course you want to listen to the judge but that’s one of the things you have to watch out for is trick questions from the judges. One of the judges told me a trick question but I just kept going because I know right from wrong. Many people from many places do many things just like you could, if you pay close attention to the right things.
Congratulations Kayleigh for all the hard work, practice, and dedication!
